Paseo de Almería
The main street in Almeria is a busy place where early 20C buildings stand next to modern tower blocks. Note the Merchants' Circle, part of which was decorated in 1920, the Cervantes Theatre, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Sea, the School of Fine Arts in a petty 18C cloister, the 19C building that houses the local government, and the Montoya house, a typical northern Spanish building.

Town Hall
The town hall is an 18C brick building with a restrained, well-proportioned façade. On the left is a lovely 17C stone fountain called the Pilar de los Cuatro Caños (fountain with four spouts).

Parish Church of the Incarnation
The parish church is a 16C brick building. In the nave, note the fine Baroque altarpiece adorning the high altar, and an Immaculate Conception by Alonso Cano (1601-67), a painter from Granada and a contemporary of Zurbarán and Velásquez.

Cathedral
This cathedral seems more like a fortress. It was built in the 16C on the site of a former mosque. Outside, admire the fine Renaissance main portal, and the curious Portocarrero Sun sculpted on the gable. Inside, do not miss the Renaissance stalls of the coro, especially the strange medallions decorated with cameos on the upper stalls, and the three chapels around a walkway.
