Abbey of St Roman
A marked path leads to the chapel carved out of the rock which contains the tomb of St Roman. From the terrace, with its tombs carved out of the rock, there is a fine view over the Rhône, Avignon and the Ventoux area with Tarascon in the foreground. On your way back down, you will see a vast room and the monks cells, completing a site of captivating simplicity.

Chateau of King René
A favourite residence of king René of Anjou who commissioned the refined decor. Note the lower courtyard with its apothecary's store, the royal courtyard with the minstrels' chapel and the polygonal spiral staircase tower. The royal lodge with its decorated wooden ceilings and fireplaces, and the royal bedchamber with its dishwarmer, useful when you are hungry, proves that here, as in Angers, King René liked comfort... and lavish parties. Magnificent terrace panorama.

Cathédrale N.-D.-et-St-Castor
Nimes cathedral was built in 1096 and suffered greatly during the religious wars. It was almost entirely rebuilt in the 19C. The pleasant Place aux Herbes, where the cathedral stands is a good stopping-off point with its many café terraces.
