Former ramparts
The Boulevard des Cordeliers and Boulevard du Capitani occupy the site of former 12C and 13C ramparts. A few gates and towers, including the Tournemire Tower, indicate that the town was once fortified by double ramparts.

The Old Quarter of Sarlat
Divided into two by the «Traverse» or Rue de la République, the town of Sarlat has two distinct parts, one a popular area and the other more aristocratic. This typical Périgord town is famous for its architecture - attractive residences made of light-ochre limestone masonry with interior courtyards. A restoration and rehabilitation programme was started in 1964 to save the old quarters from decay.

Vallée de la Vézère
Prehistoric sites and castles alternate along the banks of the River Vézère downstream of Montignac. Visitors can choose between "Le Thot, Espace cro-magnon", devoted to the daily life of our ancestors, and La Roque-St-Christophe, Europe's largest troglodytic site. If you prefer more recent history, make a point of visiting the 16C Château de Losse, towering above the river, or the Château de Chabans. There are numerous opportunities to stop for the night along the way.
