Blue John Cavern <!-- UrbanAndNaturalAreas isempty -->

This cavern has a pure form of fluorite known as Blue John. This semi-precious stone is worked for jewellery and larger pieces for a long time; the ruins of Pompeii contain vases made from this material. During your visit through these caves, you can admire the very high caverns with superb mineral colourings and chalk formations - stalactites, stalagmites and columns.

Little Moreton Hall <!-- CivilAndHistoricArchitecture isempty -->

The beautiful moated, half-timbered manor house was begun in 1440 with the building of the Great Hall. It was only finished some 140 years later with the addition of John Moreton's Long Gallery. Notice the tracery in the bay window of the Great Hall and the painted frieze in the Parlour that tells the story of Susanna and the Elders. The murals in the Long Gallery under the fine arch-braced ceiling represent Destiny and Fortuny.

Cathedral <!-- ReligiousBuildings isempty -->

A remarkable fusion of three styles: early 16C (Great Tower), early 18C (the nave designed by James Gibbs) and late 20C, the rear chancel. Inside, classical simplicity forms a contrast with Bakewell's magnificent screen and wrought-iron grills and the canopy of the high altar. South of the choir lies Bess of Hardwick, eclipsing her neighbours when lying at rest as she did during her lifetime.

Wedgwood Factory Visitor Centre <!-- Museums isempty -->

The 1938 Wedgwood Factory, set in parkland, was a model in its day. There are displays of the pottery-making process, a superb collection of Wedgwood ware (neo-Classical, Victorian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and modern), portraits of Wedgwood by Stubbs, Reynolds, Lawrence and Wright of Derby.
