Panagía Koubelídiki Church <!-- HistoricStreetsAndDistricts isempty -->

Panagía Koubelídiki, dedicated to the Virgin, is the only domed church in Kastoriá with a tall drum. It was probably built in the mid-9C. The frescoes in the porch date from 1496. Those in the cross-plan interior are 13C, except for the ones in the apse which are 17C. The narthex vaulting bears the Holy Trinity, which is rarely represented in the Byzantine tradition. Note the Dormition of the Virgin in the nave above the narthex door.

St Stephen's Church <!-- AttractionsAndLeisureActivities isempty -->

The closed porch on two sides of Ágios Stéfanos (St Stephen's Church, 9C) is a late addition. It was probably a bishop's church on the evidence of the throne base in the apse. The vaulting of the lofty nave is painted with 12C frescoes, in particular the Nativity and Purification on the south wall. In the rest of the church and in the upper sections of the narthex the 9C frescoes have been preserved: the Last Judgement on the south wall and ceiling.

Kastoriá Lakes <!-- CastlesOrStatelyHomes isempty -->

To the east of Kastoriá a peninsula jutting into the lake offers pleasant views of the southern part of town stretching out on the hillside. Typical flat-bottomed boats with raised prows can still be seen on the lake under the plane and willow trees. Near the Monastery of the Virgin (2.5km) the road widens and is lined with huge plane trees, providing a lovely view of the lake.
