This Tudor style building has some treasures from the town of Ipswich and its surroundings. It has a fine collection of paintings by 17C artists from Suffolk, including Constable (The Mill Stream, the House of Willy Lott and two paintings of the Stour Valley showing his father's kitchen and a flower garden) and Gainsborough (Portrait of William Wollaston, Passing the Ford, The Cottage Door and View by the Sea).

Under ornate plasterwork ceilings, the collection is based on clocks but also includes costumes, textiles, portraits and objets d'art bequeathed by local families.

Built with 4-m thick walls on the vaults of the Roman Temple of Claudius, its massive dimensions (46 m by 34 m) are one and a half times those of the White Tower in the Tower of London. It is now a museum housing one of the largest collections in Britain of Roman antiquities gathered from one site.

This glass building was completed in 1975 by architect Norman Foster as one of the temples of insurance, a major business in Ipswich.
