Canary Wharf
This new business district, in operation since the 1990s, is dominated by Cesar Pelli's Canada Tower (244 m high and with 50 floors). Pelli described it as a «square prism crowned by a pyramid in the traditional shape of an obelisk». Currently, it is the highest skyscraper in Great Britain. In Cabot Square, one of the 42 «dances» performed by the fountain is worth seeing.

Leeds Castle
Originally Norman, Leeds Castle was built on two islands in the middle of a lake. A stone bridge links the keep and the turreted main building. The castle contains many splendid works of art and serves as an international conference centre. It was used for peace negotiations between Israel and Egypt in 1977. The park includes a duckery, secret grotto and maze.

Hospital of St Thomas the Martyr
Founded in 1180 by Edward Fitzoldbold, a rich citizen of Canterbury, the original buildings housed pilgrims who had come to see the tomb of Saint Thomas. Inside stands a 14 C chapel, which is still used for prayer. Upstairs, the northern wall of the refectory (12 C) is decorated with a fresco that was discovered in 1879. A chapel (12 C) just above the entrance hall has a remarkable wooden frame and roof.
