Duomo <!-- ReligiousBuildings isempty -->

With its spires, its pinnacles, its gables, its numerous statues, this cathedral, which was begun in 1386 and completed in 1809, offers an unforgettable sight, especially when the afternoon sun shines on the white stone. You will admire the chevet, go up to the terraces and discover a unique view from the 7th floor of the department store La Rinascente. The interior is sober, bordering on austere and is very vast.

The Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Techno <!-- Museums isempty -->

Budding scientists and fans of Leonardo, here you will find models of the inventions imagined by the Tuscan artist. Several sections are dedicated to Astronomy, acoustics, Telecommunications, Chemistry, and two big halls cover transportation - by land, sea and air. Everything you ever wanted to know, in a 16th C. ex-convent.

Sforza Castle (Castello Sforzesco) <!-- AttractionsAndLeisureActivities isempty -->

This impressive castle once belonged to two families that held the power in Milan between the 13th and the 16th C.: The Visconti and the Sforza families. It contains the municipal art collections with, in the sculpture section, the Bernabo Visconti monument, the recumbent statue of Gaston of Foix, and the Pietà Rondanini, last unfinished work by Michelangelo: a must-see! The art gallery and the Museum of musical instruments are also quite interesting.

Municipal Museum of Natural History <!-- Museums isempty -->

Geology, Paleontology, Zoology presented with the aid of several dioramas that are quite well made: now here's a handy museum to pull out of you sleeve, when you sit down to negotiate with your kids!

http://www.chocolatmilano.it/ Gelateria Chocolat. This gelateria has has excellent quality gelato including about 10 flavours of cholocate. Flavours include bitter dark (fondente) chocolate, the obvious milk and white chocolates plus nut, fruit and even chilli variants. Their milk chocolate gelato is the best chocolate ice cream I have ever eaten. I've chomped my way through quite a few so please don't take thiss lightly. They also do coffee, hot chocolate and chocs to take away (though these aren't made on the premises). The cakes look absolutely amazing and although I didn't have space to try them, they will probably be the main reason for a subsequent visit to Milan. Why on earth didn't I make sspace? Open 7.30am - 1am every day. Via Boccaccio 9, 02 481 00597. Near Cadorna Metro. - Simon Owen, Bristol, UK
