Museo archeologico (archaeological museum) <!-- CivilAndHistoricArchitecture isempty -->

This museum unites many objects from the neighbouring Chiusi necropolises: sarcophaguses, cippi and funerary urns, as well as sculptures, Canopuses (Egyptian human-headed vases), commemorative plaques made of clay, vases, lamps, and jewellery epitomising Etruscan exuberance.

Bordered by the severe Palace of the Podestà (A magnificent example of 13C civil medieval architecture, the Episcopal palace and the town hall which the gallery de S. Francesco extends, this square forms a unusual trapezoid arrangement. In the centre there the lovely Gothic Sturinalto fountain.

In a green beech forest from which a flock of birds flew from when he blessed it, Saint Bernardino of Sienna founded this retreat. Francis and his disciples liked to retire there treating it as a prison to clean their souls of "The tiniest speck of dust from their contact with the rest of humanity". Narrow passageways take you to the refectory and the cave in which the Saint's soul was cleansed.

This fortress located right at the top of the town is a beautiful example of 14C military architecture with a keep offering visitors a superb view over the town and countryside.
