Cathedral <!-- ReligiousBuildings isempty -->

The cathedral stands in the place of the old Saxon cathedral from the 7C, whose foundations were discovered in 1960. William Alkaline, named bishop by William I, began building the new cathedral in 1079. Built from stone from the Isle of Wight, the longest gothic cathedral in Europe (169 m) took on its definitive shape in 1528.

Rhinefield Ornamental Drive <!-- UrbanAndNaturalAreas isempty -->

This majestic drive is lined with trees planted in 1859. Today they make up Britain's finest collections of adult conifers. Some of the Douglas firs and sequoias are over 50m tall.

Bolderwood Ornamental Drive <!-- UrbanAndNaturalAreas isempty -->

This splendid 19C drive features a large number of magnificent adult trees, particularly oak and beech. Paths lead off from the drive to observation platforms from which visitors can admire the stag in paddocks. Further on down the drive, the oak and beech trees are at least three hundred years old. Right at its end just before the A35, stands the grand old Knightwood Oak, said to be over 375 years old.

This Queen Anne town house was built in 1712 for Henry Peckham, a wine merchant. The tastefully furnished rooms are the setting for collections of Bow porcelain and paintings (Henry Moore, Graham Sutherland, John Piper and Paul Nash).
