Wool Exchange
Built in 1867 in Italian style, the Wool Exchange was the centre of the world's wool trade. Brokers still meet here once a week. The statues at the entrance are those of St Blaize, the patron saint of wool combers and Edward III who did much to encourage the development of the wool industry.

Helmshore Textile Museum
A large collection of photos and machines in two old wool spinning factories, Higher Mill (1789) and Whitakers Mill (19 C). There are regular demonstrations and the history of spinning is taken back to the time when villagers sold their urine at a penny a pot to be used in the fulling process (hence the expression "to spend a penny").
