The Silk Exchange
La Lonja (Silk Exchange) was built in the 15C at the request of the silk merchants, the old building having become too cramped because of the volume of business. Its flamboyant Gothic façade, dominated by a tower, is crowned with a crenelated ridgepole decorated with gargoyles. Affluent Valencia looked after its architecture! In the old trading hall, the high ribbed vaults are supported by elegant twisted columns and lit by windows with fine tracery.
