Car Hire Corfu – Cities and Towns
easyCar has car rental facilities in Corfu Town and Acharavi, as well as at Corfu
Airport.
Corfu Town (also known as Kerkya) is the island’s capital and is a great place to
use as a base during a Corfu car hire holiday. The city’s main landmarks are its
two fortresses. The Old Fortress is separated from Corfu Town by a moat, but is
accessible by means of a bridge. The New Fortress is home to a bar and to the Ceramics
Museum of Corfu. The Old Town area is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site and
you can explore its narrow streets and admire its beautiful Venetian-style architecture.
Other attractions in Corfu Town include the Spianada, the largest square in the
city, where you’ll find gardens and cafes, together with the Palace of Saint Michael
and Saint George, which houses the Municipal Gallery and the Museum of Asian Art.
You can use a rental car to reach other attractions in the area, such as Achillion
Palace, in the village of Gastouri.
Acharavi is a family-friendly seaside resort in the north of Corfu. It has a sandy
beach, which stretches for 3km, and plenty of shops, bars and tavernas. There are
also a number of hiking trails in the area. You can use your rental car to reach
other attractions nearby, such as the Acharavi Roman Baths and the Hydropolis water
park.
Car Hire Corfu – Mountains and Beaches
Corfu has some fantastic scenery and if you hire a car, you can drive to the island’s
highest mountain, Mount Pantokrátor, about 37km from Corfu Town. The views from
the summit of the mountain are amazing and, on a clear day, you will be able to
see Albania and Italy, as well as other islands.
You can also use a rental car to reach some of Corfu’s many beaches, which include
the six beaches around the village of Paleokastrista, and Arilas Beach, which lies
about 35km from Corfu Town.
Car Hire Corfu – Driving Tips
There are a few things to bear in mind when on a car hire holiday in Corfu. You
must drive on the right-hand side of the road and carry your driving licence, passport
and vehicle documentation in your rental car.
Bear in mind that some roads in remote areas of the island aren’t likely to be well-maintained
and are often narrow, so keep your speed down and drive carefully. The weather is
often hot, so opt for a hire car with air-conditioning.
