Wellington is the capital of New Zealand and located in the south of the North Island. Collect your rental car in Wellington and visit the Museum of New Zealand, the Cricket Museum or watch a performance by the Symphony Orchestra.

Auckland City is on the North Island and is the perfect base for a car hire holiday in New Zealand. A sizeable area of the city is based on a strip of land between the mainland and the Auckland Sky Tower that dominates the sky line. Use your rental car to visit the Botanic Gardens, Auckland Zoo or explore the area around the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

The largest city on the South Island is Christchurch, and is the perfect starting point for a car hire holiday in the area. Close to Christchurch are three main sandy beaches; New Brighton, Sumner and Taylor’s Mistake. There are many interesting attractions including the Cookie Time Factory at Templeton, white-flippered penguin visits, and Arthur’s Pass National Park for summer fishing trips and winter skiing.

Car Hire New Zealand – The Great Outdoors

Wellington is an ideal base for an adventure or sporting holiday by rental car. How about a Seal Coast Safari by 4WD truck or a challenging mountain bike tour? In your hired car you could take an overnight kayak trip or abseil in the Otaki Gorge area.

From Auckland take a 200 mile drive by rental car to the scenic ‘Bay of Islands’, travelling by ferry from Paihia to Cap Brett, or to the glow worm caves in Waitomo.

Queenstown is an adventure resort town and where you can enjoy snow sports at the popular ski-fields of Cardrona Alpine, Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Treble Cone, or alternatively join activities on the lake and rivers, including white-water rafting or jet boating.

Car Hire New Zealand – Driving Tips

When driving your rented car in New Zealand, drive on the left and note that driving speed limits are in kilometres per hour. Most roads in New Zealand have one lane; don’t overtake if the central yellow line is solid. When parking your rental car, only park in the direction of the traffic flow on the side of the road you are on, or on the left hand side if a one way street.
