Car Hire Lanzarote – Cities, Towns and Resorts

easyCar has rental facilities at Lanzarote Airport and at Costa Teguise and Puerto de Playa, and it’s simple to hire a car.

Lanzarote’s capital, Arrecife, is definitely worth visiting, as the range of goods in the shops is wider than in the seaside resorts and prices are lower. Attractions in the city include the 18th Century Castillo San José, which now houses Lanzarote’s Museum of International Contemporary Art and a stylish restaurant. You can use your rental car to explore the Arrecife area – Puerto del Carmen, for example is a fishing village, with an old harbour, superb seafood restaurants and four miles of golden Blue Flag beaches, and it will only take about ten minutes to drive there from Lanzarote Airport in your hire car.

Costa Teguise is a popular tourist destination and it will only take about 20 minutes to get to this purpose-built resort from Lanzarote Airport in your rental car. It’s popular with windsurfers and also has the island’s only golf course. If you base yourself in Costa Teguise, you can use a rental car to visit places such as the historic town of Teguise.

Car Hire Lanzarote – Beaches, Caves and Natural Scenery

Lanzarote has around 200 miles of coastline, so you can use your hire car to drive from one golden sandy beach to another. Head for Playa Blanca in your rental car and you can visit three beaches, Playa Flamingo, Playa Dorada and Papgayo. You can also use your hire car to get to the artificial La Santa beach, the ideal place to learn to windsurf.

Don’t miss Jameos del Agua, in northern Lanzarote. One of the island’s most popular attractions, this cave system was transformed into a restaurant, auditorium and gardens thanks to the inspiration of Lanzarote-born Cesar Manrique. You can also use your rental car to reach the nearby Cueva de los Verdes, which were formed as a result of volcanic eruptions.

No rental car holiday in Lanzarote is complete without a visit to the spectacular TImanfaya National Park, famous for its volcanoes and Mars-like landscape.

Car Hire Lanzarote – Driving Tips

There are a few points to remember when on a Lanzarote rental car holiday. You must be least 21 years old to hire a car and must carry your full valid driving licence and passport with you at all times. Drive on the right hand side of the road and adhere to the speed limits, which are in kilometres per hour. Seat belts must be worn by everyone travelling in your rental car and using a mobile phone when driving is illegal.
