Car Hire Tenerife – Cities and Towns
easyCar has car rental facilities at Tenerife Airport South, Tenerife Los Rodeos
Airport (also known as Tenerife Airport North) and Santa Cruz de la Marina.
The island’s capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is a busy city on the north-west coast
and has the Anaga Mountains as its back drop. One of the main reasons to visit Santa
Cruz is for its tax-free shopping, but the city also has many other attractions,
including museums, the García Sanabria Park and the Auditorio de Tenerife, an auditorium
built to look like a wave. You can use a rental car to visit other places near Santa
Cruz, such as the Anaga National Park.
Puerto de la Cruz, in the north of Tenerife, is a charming holiday resort. The Old
Town area of the city features picturesque cobbled streets and colonial buildings,
but Puerto de la Cruz also has modern shopping centres, bars, restaurants and family
attractions, making it a great place to use as a base for a rental car holiday.
You can use your hire car to get to attractions in and around Puerto de la Cruz,
such as the Botanical Gardens or the Loro Parque, which has the world’s largest
collection of parrots and Europe’s largest dolphinarium, as well as many other birds
and animals.
Car Hire Tenerife – Beaches and Scenery
The perfect beach holiday hot spot, Tenerife has both natural volcanic black sandy
beaches and beaches made from soft golden sand imported from the Sahara. Pick up
a rental car at the airport and head for the resorts of Playa de las Americas, Los
Cristianos and Costa Adeje in the south of the island. There are a number of manmade
sandy beaches close together in Playa de las Americas, with Playa de las Vistas
linking the resort to Los Cristianos. If you are staying in this part of Tenerife,
you can also enjoy the nightlife – as the sun goes down, leave your rental car at
your hotel and head for Veronicas Strip in Playa de las Americas, where the bars,
clubs and pubs are open all night.
Tenerife is also known for its natural attractions. Jump in a rental car and head
off to Teide National Park to see Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak. You can park
your hire car and walk or take the cable car to the top for stunning views of Tenerife
and across the sea to some of the other Canary Islands. The park is also home to
many different plants and species of wildlife, so it’s well worth exploring during
a hire car holiday.
Car Hire Tenerife – Driving Tips
Drive your rental car on the right-hand side of the road, and carry your driving
licence and passport with you. Stick to the speed limits, which are shown in kilometres
per hour. Drink-driving laws are strict, so it’s best not to drink alcohol at all
before driving your rental car. It’s a legal requirement for the driver and passengers
to wear seatbelts.
