Car Hire Switzerland - Cities and Towns

easyCar has car rental facilities in many cities and towns in Switzerland, including Basel, Geneva, Zurich, Locarno, Bern, Interlaken, Lausanne and Lucerne. You’ll find plenty to entertain you in Switzerland’s cities, but you’ll really be able to make the most of your stay with a hire car.

Geneva, for example, is known for its cultural attractions, which include museums, sculptures and galleries. The city’s most famous landmarks are the Palais des Nations (the headquarters of the United Nations) and the 140 metre high fountain, the Jet d’Eau, and it is also known for its rich history of clock-making. However, using a rental car will also enable you to visit many other attractions, such as the Chambésy Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, which are situated just outside of Geneva, or the Roman ruins and the St. Bernard Dog Museum and Kennels at Martigny.

If you use Zurich as a base, you can use a rental car to get to the classy ski resort of Klosters or to the pretty town of Einsiedeln, with its Benedictine Monastery and beautiful Basilica, whilst if you are staying in Interlaken, using a hire car will mean that you can visit the Ballenberg Open Air Museum in Brienz or drive to the city of Lugano, which is packed with attractions.

Car Hire Switzerland - Mountains, Lakes and Castles

Switzerland is the perfect place for a holiday if you love the great outdoors and, if you head off to the mountains in your hire car, you’ll find a wide range of activities on offer throughout the year. Ski resorts such as Klosters, Davos, Hoch-Ybrig, Holzegg, Grindelward, Chateau d’Oex and St. Moritz offer sports such as skiing, snowboarding and ice skating during winter and hiking, mountain-biking and horse riding during the summer.

Alternatively, you can use your rental car to explore the countryside, where you can see beautiful lakes, such as Lake Lucerne and Lake Lugano, and visit historic castles, such as the Château de Chillon, near Montreux.

Car Hire Switzerland - Driving Tips

There are a few things to bear in mind when on a car hire holiday in Switzerland. The Swiss drive on the right-hand side of the road and it is a legal requirement to wear seatbelts when travelling. Carry your driving licence, passport, V5 vehicle registration document and certificate of motor insurance in your rental car when travelling.

You will need to display a motorway tax sticker (vignette) on your rental car if you are travelling on motorways in Switzerland. Vignettes are available from service stations, garages and the customs offices at Switzerland’s borders.
