Things to do

Liverpool is a city that is big enough for you to most likely find yourself spoilt for choice with the activities on offer. The music scene is one of the biggest elements that continues to pull people to the city. Artists from the region are thought to have produced more number one singles than those from any other city. Consequently, if you want to take in some music from local bands, you are sure to find some great upcoming artists playing in the smaller, less commercial venues.

Liverpool is the home to two Premier League football teams - Liverpool FC and Everton FC. Both are worth going to watch if you want to see some quality sport being played. There is also England's Golf Coast, offering some of the finest golf courses in the world. On top of that, the Grand National is held at Aintree every year; ideal if you want to buy a new hat and dabble in some gambling on Ladies' Day.

There are the usual places to visit such as the main shopping centre, Liverpool One. There are restaurants and a cinema in the complex so you will be able to shop until you drop then relax with a nice meal and a movie. The centre also includes facilities to keep the little ones entertained so that you can shop in peace.

Go exploring

If you want to see what else the city has to offer, don't be afraid to head slightly further afield. While not one of the bigger cities in the UK, Liverpool still has a lot to offer and you can easily hire a car and drive out to the surrounding areas. Head to the port and catch the ferry over to Dublin for a few days. It won't take you long to get there and you can turn it into a mini holiday within a holiday.

On the other side of the Mersey river, you'll find West Kirby Marine Lake. Situated in the Wirral, this man-made lake is ideal for water sports. Whether you want to take part in a bit of windsurfing or a gentler sailing trip, you'll find ample facilities here, as it also hosts several competitions each year.

You also have the option of going to New Brighton if you fancy a trip to the seaside. With sandy beaches, you can go all traditional and get an ice cream and visit the arcade. You will also find the bandstand that hosts a variety of different musical event featuring everything from a full orchestra to a choir.
