Driving advice for Lithuania

Driving kit
In Lithuania you are obliged to carry the following items in your vehicle: first aid kit, fire extinguisher, warning triangle and reflective jacket/vest.

Car lights
You must have your headlights switched on both day and night. You are also required to use headlamp beam deflector stickers or have adjusted the headlamp beam by hand.

Overtaking
Often a hard-shoulder is available. If you are the slower vehicle, it is your responsibility to pull over to allow faster vehicles to pass.

Seasonal speeds
Speed limits vary on motorways and dual carriageway according to season. From April to October the speed limit is 130 km/h on motorways and 110 km/h on dual carriageways. From November to March the speed limit is 110 km/h on motorways and 100 km/h on dual carriageways. Winter tyres must be fitted on all cars between 10 November and 1 April.

The Capital

Spritely Vilnius is large by Lithuanian standards, yet, is a small city for exploring. The seat of power over centuries, Vilnius has been influenced by Poles, Russians and Jews. This is a cosmopolitan offering compared to most other Lithuanian cities.

Don’t let Vilnius' small size deceive you though. Packed inside this city is an overwhelming number of sights worthy of your attention. Expect a large dose of history as you amble down inviting alleyways lined with bright Baroque architecture. Each church is a museum itself while the lively restaurants and bars provide plenty of entertainment.

You won’t have time to stash your camera here. Around every corner is a picture-perfect shot awaiting your attention. Expect a haunting sense of WWII and communist history nestled alongside a strong modern atmopshere.
