The best way to see this World National Heritage Site is from the top of the nearby mountain, Alto de Garajonay. You can also hire a guide to take you through the deep barrancos (canyons) that cut deeper into the forest. The main town of San Sebastian is a pleasant place to wander around, even if it does get a little muggy in September. There are plenty of bars and restaurants along the busy marina. Make sure you try some of the mojo sauce, a spicy local speciality that goes brilliantly with fish or chicken. Be warned though, it can be muy picante!
