The United States of America - land of the free, home of the brave and one of the biggest tourist destinations in the world.

Millions of people flock to the United States every year and given what is on offer, it is no surprise. From the sandy beaches of the Caribbean to arid desert; from snowy mountains to dazzling cityscapes, America has something to offer just about everyone.

So much so that it can be difficult to decide where to go and what to see. Here are just a few of the top cities, to help you on your way.

New York

The city that never sleeps needs no introduction. Home to the Statue of Liberty, Broadway, the Yankees, Macy's and the Empire State Building. It is where Harry met Sally, where the Ghostbusters busted ghosts, where Carrie...you get the idea.

The Big Apple is known the world over as being one of the most vibrant cities on earth and should be visited at least once.

San Francisco

One of the great things about San Francisco is its size. Only 49 square miles means it's relatively easy to get around. Don't let its size fool you. There is plenty to see and do. For most people, the first port of call is the Golden Gate Bridge. Said to be one of the most photographed locations on earth, the 1.7 mile bridge is quite breath-taking.

Chicago

The Windy City is a great place for foodies, music lovers, sports fans and history buffs. In fact, Chicago is a great destination for just about everybody. Home to biggest science museum in the western hemisphere, the most celebrated molecular-gastronomy restaurant in the United States, the White Sox, the Cubs, the Bears and the Bulls. Chicago will not leave you without something to do.

Las Vegas

The list would not be complete without the city of Las Vegas. Tucked away in the Nevada Desert, is this oasis of indulgence, bright lights and entertainment. Gamble the nights away, catch a show, relax in luxury hotels and enjoy the spectacle that is Vegas. Just remember; what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

Orlando

If you are looking a little more family orientated destination, Orlando, Florida is the obvious choice. Disneyworld, which comprises of the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, is the most visited complex on earth. Even the most sceptical of adults can't help but get washed away in this magical experience.

Disney is not the only place to have fun. Orlando is also home to Universal Studios, home of Harry Potter, Spiderman, Back to the Future, the Simpsons and more.

People who enjoy big rides should check out Busch Gardens. Not as well-known as the other two theme parks, Busch Gardens has some seriously thrilling rides.

New Orleans

The Big Easy is probably one of the coolest places on earth. It has had a tough few years following the devastation that followed Hurricane Katrina but such spirit cannot be defeated and the city is open for business.

Known for Mardi Gras, jazz and blues, southern food and of course, southern hospitality, it's no wonder that the city's unofficial motto is: 'Let the good times roll'.
