The capital of England is a buzzing hub for tourists. The vibrant city of London has so many things to do that you will never find yourself at a loose end. Whether you want to take in some culture or make like a local, you're never far from an activity of some sort.

Things to do

The capital cities of the world will always have countless things to do. If you want to take in some of the local history, head over to one of the many museums dotted about. The Imperial War Museum and Natural History Museum will give you interesting insights to how life used to be. The Science Museum has loads of fun activities inside that you can do to understand how things work, as well as touring exhibits at different times of the year.

The London Eye, London Bridge and Tower of London are all famous sights that you simply can't miss when in London. Don't try to cram everything into one day because you simply won't have time. Check into one of the many boutique hotels and spend a week exploring all the different things London has to offer.

Take an open-topped bus tour in the warmer months to see all the landmarks and get a brief explanation of each one. This is a great activity for first-timers and even locals who may not have bothered to find out about the city they live in. If you want to go shopping, head straight for Oxford Street. Here, you'll find all the high street shops, with some of them having several stores on the same street. Thought to be the busiest shopping street in Europe, it stretches for around one and a half miles with the prestigious Bond Street snaking off of it. If you're after a touch of luxury and designer brands, Bond Street is the place to go - particularly if you want top of the range jewellery.

Go exploring

London is spreading out into neighbouring cities and towns as more people move to the area so there's plenty to explore outside of the city centre. Hire a car and drive out to Hampton Court Palace in Richmond upon Thames. One of Henry VIII's last remaining palaces, it is famed for its maze, which is well worth a visit.

Stately homes and castles are all within easy access and many of them are situated on the outskirts of London. Windsor Castle always has lots of fun activities and even hosts a winter storytelling sessions at Christmas time; you can see the coats of armour and take in the beautiful Christmas tree in the Crimson Drawing Room. Along with travelling exhibitions, there is also Queen Mary's Dolls' House, one of the most famous doll houses in the world.

If you want to go even further out of town, head to Bournemouth for a day at the beach. Seven miles of sandy beaches await you, along with a pier and plenty of seaside activities to do. Alternatively, you will also find several airports in the surrounding areas of London so you can easily catch a flight abroad to almost anywhere in the world. The airports provide parking so it's simple and stress-free to hop on a plane and go on holiday.
