Another popular attraction in Dublin is the Guinness Storehouse in St James’s Gate Brewery, where you can learn about this famous brand before stopping off for a pint at Gravity Bar, the highest bar in the city.

There are many museums and galleries in Dublin. Learn about Dublin’s history at Dublinia & The Viking World, visit the National Wax Museum PLUS or use your rental car to drive to the James Joyce Museum in Sandycove, about eight miles south of Dublin. If you’re visiting Dublin with young children, don’t miss Imaginosity, a museum specifically designed to keep them entertained.

Other Dublin attractions include the National Botanic Gardens, the library at Trinity College, where millions of books and priceless manuscripts are housed, and Kilmainham Gaol.

Dublin is also known for its nightlife – enjoy some fabulous food in one of the city’s many restaurants before heading off to a bar, pub or club to party the night away.

Attractions in the Dublin Area

There is plenty to do in Dublin, but with a rental car, you can take a break from the city and explore the surrounding area.

Horseracing fans will love the Irish National Stud in Tully, in Kildare. You can take a tour of the stud farm and then visit the Horse Museum, which features exhibits tracing the history of racing. Even if you aren’t a fan of the sport, it’s still worth jumping into your rental car and making the 40 minute journey in order to explore the beautiful Japanese Gardens and relax with a stroll in Saint Fiachra’s Garden.

If you are on a family hire car holiday, head off to Malahide Demesne Regional Park, where you can visit Malahide Castle and see the Fry Model Railway, one of the largest model railways in the world. Other attractions in Malahide Demesne Regional Park include the Talbot Botanic Gardens and Tara’s Palace and Childhood Museum.

You can also use your Dublin rental car to explore Ireland’s stunning coastline. Skerries, for example, is about 40 minutes’ drive from Dublin and has two beaches, Skerries North Beach and Skerries South Beach. Park your rental car and stroll across the sands or explore the Red Island Coastal Walkway, and enjoy the views of the sea and the Mountains of Mourne.
