Hire a car in Perth
Isolated from Australia’s busy eastern shores, Perth has crafted its own unique character.
Basking under endless blue skies and sunshine, the western capital thrives on a sweet social scene and showdown of water sports. You’ll find a serenity here you won’t find in other parts of the country and a relaxed pace of life that allows you to kick-back. For a feel of true Aussie lifestyle, this is the place to be.
As the gateway to Australia’s natural western wonders, Perth makes a great jumping off point for a road trip into the wild outback. Hug the coastal road for beautiful ocean drives and never-ending horizons, which reach beyond the city’s surrounding beaches and wetlands.
Sights to see
Possibly the most isolated big city in the world, Perth sits out on the west coast of Australia over 4400 kilometres from Sydney. Don’t let this distance fool you though – Perth is as Australian as anywhere else in the country and has a cosmopolitan atmosphere and stunning natural beauty.
Things to do Perth
Perth, set on a picturesque riverside location, boasts almost year-round sun and has a leafy, lively atmosphere. Even the suburbs hold points of interest for the visitor. The stunning white beaches of Cottesloe and Scarborough are favourites with swimmers and surfers, despite the occasional sighting of a "white pointer" shark. King’s Park in the city is a wonderful location to view the area and relax with an ice cream while the parakeets chirp around you. There’s even a huge botanical garden nearby to wander through the varieties of vegetation and scrubland. For a more cultural experience, the Museum of Western Australia has a stunning array of exhibits and artefacts. Natural history, Aboriginal traditions, dinosaurs, stuffed sharks – it’s a remarkable museum worth spending an entire day inside.
Perth: Discover more
Rent a car and take a trip down to Perth’s trade port, Freemantle. This bustling and pretty little town has a few excellent restaurants and bars and some great colonial artefacts. You could also tour further up the coast and with a few weeks to spare head to the astounding Ningaloo Reef or south to the lush Margaret River wine region, which also has a thriving surf culture.
