Hire a car in Northampton
Nestled beside the River Nene, Northampton’s history stretches back to the Bronze Age.
The town rose to national significance after the Norman conquest, but unlike many English cities its history is less visible. The city underwent a dramatic transformation in 1675, when the entirety of the town was destroyed by a great fire. The buildings that survived the fire, including the Welsh house, are now distinguished sites.
Northampton Central Museum and Art Gallery and historic market square, which dates back to 1235, are also worth of a visit.
