Frankenstein castle
Thought to be the inspiration behind Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, Frankenstein, these crumbling castle ruins are haunted by myths of monsters and mad scientists. Two towers and a chapel still remain on a hilltop, near to the Odenwald mountain range. The castle hosts some of Germany’s biggest Halloween parties, in a tribute to its literary legend.
Frankenstein Castle is under an hour from the city of Frankfurt.
