The largest and most populous city in New Zealand, Auckland is a dynamic multicultural hub.
Despite being rated one of the world’s most liveable cities, quickly passing though this city is the typical tourist trend. Yet, staying a while can be a highly rewarding experience. Get a feel for local life as you wander around its sparkling harbour and look up at its landmark Sky Tower. From sea to sky, the city is a subtropical oasis.
Of course, there is every reason to explore Auckland’s surrounding areas as well. That is, after all, what you probably came here for. With over 50 volcanoes, black and white sand beaches and sprawling rainforests, take to the road and discover the enchanting scenery of New Zealand’s North Island.
Sights to see
The refreshing maritime surroundings and nearby subtropical forests give Auckland a bright and breezy atmosphere. Nicknamed the 'City of Sails', Auckland’s harbour is a spectacular hive of yachts and boats jutting out from the water.
Things to do Auckland
The largest city in New Zealand, Auckland is spread over a series of bays and surrounded by the Pacific on nearly all sides. It’s not surprising that the city has a nautical feel wherever you turn, from the themed pubs to the jaunty souvenirs. Tourists make for the city centre, between the Waitemata and Manukau Harbours. Along the waterfront you can stop for a meal of fresh seafood, or take a look at the America’s Cup Village, a must for fans of sailing. Further inland, Parnell and Ponsonby are the places to shop till you drop then relax at one of the numerous trendy cafes. If you feel like a morning dip in the ocean, head down to Okahu Bay and Mission Bay for an invigorating swim. For a more a cultural experience, don’t miss the Auckland Museum. With a superb collection of Pacific artefacts and Maori relics, this makes for a fascinating afternoon visit.
