Only an hour’s drive from Alicante, Javea (sometimes called Xabia by the locals) boasts all of the benefits of being on the Costa Blanca without the hordes of tourists. Arenal, the town’s main beach attracts many of the visitors staying in the nearby hotels and resorts, but there are plenty of calmer areas to sunbathe and relax just a short distance along the coast. The town still has an attractive traditional old quarter, with some wonderful gothic architecture and pleasant flower-fringed squares. The clean, modern and majestic Church of Our Lady of Loreto towers over the heart of the quaint ancient fishing quarter and is a beautiful place to look around.
