Hire a car in Cincinnati
Animated and attractive, Cincinnati is a classic Midwest destination with a touch of southern influence.
Set on the Ohio River and atop seven hills, the city keeps a cool under-the-radar attitude. Its food markets, music and beer are all worthy of praise but you won’t catch the city shouting about its greatness. A place of intrigue, Cincinnati’s German heritage is unmistakable while its Art Deco architecture means glancing up at its buildings is always surprising.
Plot your great American road trip and hit the road – from Cincinnati it's an easy drive over the border into Indiana and Kentucky. Follow the river down to Louisville for the renowned Kentucky Derby or head northeast deeper into Ohio, through the state’s capital, Columbus, and up to the shores of Lake Erie.
Sights to see
Sat on the north bank of the Ohio River, Cincinnati is a bright and friendly American city. Downtown is based around the scenic Fountain Square with wonderful sculptures and public art (including a waterfall made from books!) dotted around the area. Climb the nearby Carew Tower, a superb art-deco construction, and you can get a fantastic view of the city and the park below. Make sure you visit the Cincinnati Zoo, internationally renowned for its endangered species collection. With orang-utans, gorillas and even white tigers, it’s a zoo full of wonders. There’s even a children’s area where you can pet some of the more domesticated animals! The Botanical Garden attached to the zoo recreates a rainforest habitat (among others), complete with thousands of butterflies and hummingbirds. Cincinnati’s Museum Center is based in an old art-deco railway station. The fascinating Museum of Natural History and Science features wonderful interactive exhibitions that are perfect for kids, while the Cincinnati Historical Museum has displays on local life through the ages.
