Ancient wines
Cyprus is the birthplace of one of the oldest wines in the world – Commandaria. You can sample the amber-hued dessert wine across the island, which to this day is produced using only Xynisteri and Mavro grapes. Commandaria perfectly complements cheese and fruit after a local meal, so before you leave, get a taste of Cyprus.
Beautiful beaches
Cyprus’ beaches have been continuously named the cleanest in Europe over the years, which makes it the perfect place to come and relax on the shore. From the fish-tail shape of Makronissos, to the sheltered corners of Konnos Bay there is so much lovely sandy coastline to explore.
Diver’s paradise
The Zenobia shipwreck is known as one of the best dives in the world. Suitable for all levels of experience, this huge 178 metre carcass is buried deep in the ocean complete with over 100 articulated lorries and other unusual cargo (thought to be worth around £200 million). A fascinating underwater world waiting to be explored.
Walking haven
Cyprus is home to 52 designated walking trails. Choose your difficulty level, pick your favourite region and put on your hiking boots. Good weather most of the year makes Cyprus a great place to get outdoors.

Unlike the majority of the world, Cyprus drives on the left.
Being polite
It’s best to avoid holding up your hand and palm to someone’s face as if to say ‘don’t talk to me.’ This is a gesture known as moutza in Cyprus and it is considered very rude.

Lefkara
The land of lace
When you stumble upon places like Lefkara, you realise exactly why you hired a car. Sitting at the foot of the Cypriot mountains this small, picturesque village is what road-trip dreams are made of.
Famous for its lace making, tradition is easy to find here. Lefkara’s white stone homes are surrounded by scenery and open out onto tiny cobbled streets where locals sit having coffee-fueled conversations.
Go back in time and visit antique cafes, seek out what is thought to be the oldest producer of Loukoumi (Turkish delight) in the country and witness the craftsmanship that goes into lace embroidery. The village is also known for its filigree silver work, so there is lots to uncover here.
