Hints for driving in Palma de Mallorca
Type of road |
Speed limit |
---|---|
Built up areas | 50km/h |
Rural areas | 90km/h |
Motorways | 130km/h |
Parking
There are thousands of parking spaces in the capital in
municipal car parks, so you should be able to get a spot. However, traffic can get congested
within the city – you can always park in the outskirts and walk in.
Pedestrians
There are pedestrian crossings all over the island. They can
be in unexpected places too, such as just off of roundabouts or near junctions for side
streets. Cars should stop at these – people will walk out into the road expecting them to,
so be wary.
Soller Tunnel
Once upon a time, it was the most expensive toll tunnel in
Spain. However, the fees were scrapped at the end of 2017 so now you can use it for free.
This impressive section of road is carved deep into the rockface and means you can avoid the
difficult mountain drive from Bunyola to Soller.

The wine capital of the island, Binissalem is where you’ll find bodegas and
vineyards aplenty. It was thousands of years ago that growers realised that the hilly and
fertile lands were perfect growing grapes. In the Tramuntana hillside, this attractive town is nestled in an olive tree
covered valley. The honey-hued stone houses and villas make for an alternative retreat, if
you’d like to get away from the beaches for a day. An idyllic town that has attracted and inspired a number of legendary
creative figures over the years. Despite its celebrity status, you won’t find any chain
hotels here, only local vibes. Road trip destinations
