Get to know Kefalonia
Best beach – Myrtos
It’s likely that you’ve unknowingly stared at an aerial shot of this spectacular beach, as Myrtos has gained an international reputation as one of the best in Greece. Its crescent shaped pebble shoreline looks onto electric blue waters and is surrounded by lush greenery.

Most picturesque village – Assos
With only 100 inhabitants, Assos has a charm that’s hard to beat. The town’s shore is lined with colourful houses while its 16th century Venetian castle dominates the skyline. Walk among olive tree forests and through the town's network of quaint alleyways for a full sense of Assos.
As an isolated slice of Kefalonia, a car is necessary to reach the town. It is around a 35 km drive from the capital, Argostoli.
Natural wonder – Mount Ainos
Part of the island’s only national park, Mount Ainos is the highest peak on Kefalonia.
To reach the summit, first drive along the narrow and windy Mt Ainos Road from the northwest. Park your car at the transmitter station and then continue on by foot. Hike first along a dirt track then up a set of steps to the mountain top, where you can take in views of this exquisite range.
