Bolton is close to numerous areas of natural beauty and big cities.
Resting on the edge of the West Pennine Moors, Bolton is only 12 miles from Manchester city centre, making it an easily accessible base for exploring the North West. This former textile and mill town developed into one of the largest cotton manufactures following the Industrial Revolution. There is a bold plan in the works to revitalise Bolton’s town centre.

A scenic drive
The Lake District
The romance of the Lake District has inspired artists and writers for centuries with its early morning mist, valleys and glassy lakes.
Lake Windermere is the largest lake in the park – and the closest to reach when arriving from Bolton. Take a drive around the lake to visit some of the most popular spots in the area, such as Wray Castle and Blackwell House, as well as the more secluded parts on Windermere’s western shore.
Scattered across the lake are 18 small islands. Windermere has been serviced by a ferry for more than 500 years, so you can take your car to the central islands.
There are numerous car parks situated throughout the district, most are pay and display, though there are also free car parks in more remote areas.
