Hire a car in Preston

An old guild city, Preston became England's 50th city in 2002.

Situated in one of the country's tastiest counties, make your way to the area's hearty British pubs and restaurants for a feast of local produce and freshly caught seafood.

The city is touted as Lancashire's shopping headquarters, so make sure to have plenty of free boot space. Alternatively, wander out to any of nearby nature reserves or take a drive to the coast, which is much closer than you may expect.

Escape into nature

Warton Crag
A nationally important wildlife conservation site, Warton Crag offers outdoor enthusiasts diverse hiking opportunities. An outcrop of limestone bulges from beneath the otherwise flat landscape, and is a great place to climb up for panoramic views overlooking nearby villages. The area is well-known for its butterflies, including some of Britain's rarest species. From Preston, Warton Crag is a 40 minute drive north on the M6.

Healey Dell Nature Reserve
A disused 1800s railway line forms a unique nature trail through this reserve and provides views from a 100-foot high viaduct. A roaring waterfall, which once powered wool and cotton mills, cuts through the area. Healey Dell is two miles from Rochdale and roughly an hours drive from Preston.
