Hire a car in San Jose
A mix of old blood and new innovation, San Jose is working its way onto the tourist map.
The third largest city in California, the city is considered the state’s oldest Spanish settlement and its first official town. Although overshadowed by its illustrious neighbours – Los Angeles and San Francisco – San Jose is actually at the heart of the famed Silicon Valley. With the city’s increasing importance, you can expect there’ll always be something new to see and do.
As with any trip to California, when visiting San Jose a road trip is a must. Drive through the area’s rolling hills to the nearby award winning vineyards. Alternatively, head down the Pacific Coat Highway and enjoy one of the world’s most scenic drives.
Sights to see
The glittering hub of Silicon Valley, America's famous centre for technological innovation, San Jose attracts plenty of business and holiday visitors alike. The city centre is sparkling, clean and lively, with a wonderful mix of 19th century buildings steeped in character and shiny modern facilities. To get an idea of the technological history of the city visit the Tech Museum of Innovation, with plenty of info and hands on exhibits on the inventions and ideas that made this area so prosperous. Those more interested in the city’s cultural heritage should head to the History Museum of San Jose, with plenty of artefacts and exhibits from the region. For something a little more natural, yet still only minutes from downtown San Jose, the Alum Rock Park is a 720 acre park filled with amazing rock formations. Here you can enjoy a whole host of activities, including horse riding, mountain biking, trekking or simply enjoying a relaxing picnic!
San Jose: Discover more
San Jose is only 45 miles south east of San Francisco, which makes for a wonderful daytrip. Rent a car in San Jose and you can explore the surrounding area at your own pace. An interesting place to visit just a short drive from the city is Hakone Gardens. Nestled on the foothills of the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains, Hakone is an authentic Japanese garden, with winding gravel paths, gentle waterfalls, koi carp lazily swimming in lily-ponds and even a replica of a Kyoto tea merchants house.
