Rocamadour
Rocamadour’s dramatic integration into the surrounding landscape has made it one of France’s most visited tourist spots, for both pilgrims and curious travellers. The village is set within a steep cliffside, its medieval houses and narrow streets staggered up the rocks, almost defying gravity. To view the village as a whole and take in the best views, head to l'Hospitalet.
As part of the pilgrimage route of the Santiago de Compostela, Rocamadour has gained status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Chapelle Notre Dame is home to the famous relic of the Black Madonna, whose miraculous cures have blessed kings and commoners alike. Jutting out from a rock wall, it is one of the must-sees of the town.
Rocamadour is a two-hour drive from Bergerac. There are few car parks in the village, it is best to try parking by l'Hospitalet.
