Florence driving tips
ParkingParking in the city centre is very limited, but there are a few private garages that you can use for a fee as well as plenty of affordable parking facilities on the outskirts.
ZTL zones
Cars without a ZTL permit are prohibited in the town centre
between the hours of 7.30am and 8pm on a weekday and 7.30am and 4pm on Saturdays. Download a
map of the limited travel zones and watch out for the signs to avoid a hefty fine.
Speed limits
The speed limit is 50km/h in towns but this rises to 70km/h
on secondary roads and increases further to 100km/h on the Italian motorway system.

Driving in Tuscany can be unbearably busy when the
Italians also go on holiday. Look up a list of their public holidays and when the schools
break up so that you don’t get caught out.
Remote roads
Some of the roads outside of cities may be paved with
gravel, so it's a good idea to keep your speed as consistent as possible. Take care on
mountain roads too, especially if there are hairpin bends
