Now recognised worldwide, Alamo offers car rentals across the globe – from Darwin to Denmark. The company is also the official car hire partner of Walt Disney World® Resort and Disneyland® Resort.
Alamo age requirements
How old do you have to be to rent a car from Alamo?
When renting with Alamo in the USA, you must be a minimum of 21 years old, with the exception of New York State and Michigan where the required age is 18.
Those between 21-24 years will be subject to a young driver surcharge of $25 per day in all states besides New York, where the cost is $20 per day. A higher surcharge is applied for drivers between 18-20 in Michigan ($40 per day) and New York State ($57 per day).
To rent special or large size vehicles, you need to be 25 years old.
In Spain, you can rent select vehicles with Alamo as long as you are 21 years or older. Those 21-24 year will need to pay a young driver surcharge of 12.48€ per day or a maximum of 100€ plus VAT per rental.
No surcharge is applicable for all those over 25 years old.
There is no maximum age limit for Alamo rentals in Spain.
In the UK, Alamo does not permit rentals to young drivers. You must be at least 25 years old to rent a car from the supplier.
There is no surcharge that needs to paid for those 25 and above.
However, to rent full-size MPVS, premium vehicles or four wheel drives, drivers must be over 30 years old.

Additional driver fees
If you’re interested in sharing the driving, be aware suppliers charge extra to add a second or third driver onto your rental. The number of extra drivers you can add on varies by location, as does the price per day. You will be asked to pay the additional driver fee at the rental desk in local currency upon pick up, not online during booking.
Here is an example of Alamo’s additional driver fees by country, but be sure to look out for special offers and deals which waive the fee.
