Dollar Rent A Car was established in Los Angeles in 1965. The company was later acquired alongside Thrifty Car Rental by Chrysler and eventually bought by The Hertz Corporation – one of the largest car rental brands in the world. With headquarters in Florida, Dollar maintains a significant presence in North America, Caribbean and Latin America. It has built a reputation of providing quality vehicles for any occasion across its 570 locations worldwide.
Dollar age requirements
How old do you have to be to rent a car from Dollar?
In the US, the minimum age of rental in most states is 20, with the exception of Michigan and New York where it is 18.
Drivers under 25 years old are required to pay a young driver surcharge, which is between $27 and $45 depending on location.
This fee is included in your rental price online but only payable at the counter when you collect your car.
In France, you must be at least 21 years old to rent a car with Dollar.
However, those between the ages of 21-24 are obliged to pay a surcharge of €37.13 per day, up to a maximum of €445.54 per rental.
Drivers as young as 19 are allowed to rent a vehicle with Dollar in Switzerland.
If you are between the age of 19-24, you must pay a young driver fee of 15 CHF per day, up to a maximum of 150 CHF per rental.
