Salisbury Cathedral boasts the tallest spire in the UK, standing at 123m, and on-going restoration work means that this awe-inspiring piece of architecture remains as beautiful today as it ever was. The Cathedral only took 38 years to build completed in 1258, so is now over 750 years old and has the largest cloister and cathedral close in Europe. Salisbury Cathedral houses the world's oldest working clock and the best of the four original copies of the Magna Carta which is on display for visitors to view.
Within driving distance of Salisbury city centre is Stonehenge, one of the most famous historic sites in the world, the monument dates back to 3000BC to 2000BC and its construction is the source of great debate.
Also within easy reach of Salisbury is Old Sarum, the site of the earliest settlement in the city dating back to 3000BC. The site was originally an Iron Age hill fort and the land still reflects where this stood today.
The city centre has a mix of architecture from many different periods, parks and a bi-weekly market. There are lots of fantastic shops, restaurants and traditional British pubs to enjoy on your visit and there is something wonderfully relaxing about the whole area.
Further Afield
Salisbury is perfectly placed for access to other nearby areas of interest by car. There are direct routes to Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Bath and Bristol, all of which are brilliant places to visit during your stay here.
Bournemouth has shopping, entertainment and one of the most iconic beaches in England all less than an hour drive away.
