Hire a car in Wales
Holding on tightly to tradition, Wales is an escape from the hectic demands of modern life.
The small nation is often overshadowed by its neighbouring Celtic countries, but there is really no reason that it should be. With an intriguing culture, a distinct language and lively history, Wales manages to fit a hefty amount of character into a compact mass of land.
As for its wildly diverse and beautiful landscapes – rugged mountains, calming valleys and inviting sandy shores – there’s only one thing to say: it’s time for a road trip. Plot your Welsh adventure and search for the vehicle that’s right for you, with easyCar.

Travel tips
Best time to go
The Welsh climate is known to be fairly temperate, with mild winters and warm (never hot) summers. The country is also known for being rainy! Between June and September is the best time if you’re looking to enjoy the outdoors under blue skies.
Carry cash
If you’re planning on a road trip to Wales’ fine beaches and major attractions outside of the cities, you’ll likely have to pay a small amount for parking. Most of these car parks do not take card so it’s handy to have some cash on hand.
Language
Though English is widely spoken in Wales, Welsh is also fairly common. You’ll find that place names and road signs are written in both English and Welsh, except in small remote villages where they’re only written in Welsh.
Distances
Wales is small and there’s little traffic outside of cities like Cardiff, so you’ll be able to cover a lot of ground in a car.

---|---|
Mini | £14.30 |
Economy | £15.40 |
Compact | £17.90 |
Sat Nav
Phone and internet signal is often hit and miss in the countryside or around the coast, so you’re better off using a Sat Nav. Although you can usually rent one with your hire car, you’ll save money bringing your own.
Severn Toll Bridges
These bridges cross the River Severn, connecting England and Wales. A one way charge of £5.60applies to both the M48 and M4 bridge for cars.

Cardiff is where modern and traditional culture collide, making it the perfect kick-off point to a Welsh road trip.
What is it famous for?
The capital is most well-known for its sport, particularly rugby. The city’s atmosphere during a big match is legendary. The Wales Millennium Centre, where matches and cultural shows are held, has also become a symbol of Cardiff.
Nearby road trip:
From the city, make your way to Brecons Beacons National Park, where you will find some of the best drives in the country. Driving along the Black Mountain pass is a challenge; the road weaves over the top of high moors and twists around tight bends. It’s hard to decide whether the scenery or road is the bigger attraction.
